Signs of Hearing Loss in Children

Hearing loss can be permanent or temporary.  Children won't always tell you that they are having problems hearing.  They may, however, provide some clues to indicate they may be having hearing difficulties:-

* They do not respond to a startling or loud sound, or their name being called.

* You notice they are not responding as they previously have.

* The child does not turn towards the noise source when there is a loud sound.

* The child has delayed speech or learning milestones.

* The child is mispronouncing words or describing sounds differently.

* The child is asking for people to repeat what is said and concentrating intently on faces when being spoken to.

* The nursery/pre-school/school/carer has expressed some concern about the child having difficulty learning/hearing.

* The child is diagnosed with repeated middle ear infections.

* The child likes to turn the volume of the TV/Computer/iPad up loud.

* The child becomes frustrated at being spoken to/asked questions.

* The child reports pain or discomfort with one or both ears.

* The child is pulling on the ears during the day.

If you have any concerns about your child's hearing we recommend consulting your GP and booking them in for a hearing test.

Children are not merely small humans.  They require age and ability specific hearing tests.  At Jolly Good Hearing we tailor hearing tests for the child in order to make them fun and obtain results in a timely manner.
